Paul Scholes claims Evra as greatest Coach
Paul Scholes has claimed that former French international Patrice Evra is one of the greatest fullbacks to have represented Manchester United. Evra came to United as January 2006 signing along with Nemanja Vidic.
Little did the Premier League know that these two players were to become key members of a United team that lifted several league titles along with one Champions League trophy. Even Scholes says that the United squad did not think Evra was good enough to play for a club like United, but after a few months of settling in, the French defender started to show his immense character.
More than just being a footballer, Evra was seen as a leader in this later led to him becoming the captain of the team. After joining Juventus in the summer, he looks on course to winning the Italian league title.
Scholes has recalled that Evra had to fight for a first-team place after his arrival and his task was made harder due to the presence of Gabriel Heinze, who was then regarded as a top left back. Due to the presence of players like Evra and Carlos Tevez – duo who have played with Scholes, the former Manchester United midfielder reckons that Juventus can be an outside bet for the Champions League this season.
“When Patrice first arrived, we used to wonder whether the manager had signed a jockey, rather than a footballer.Patrice became one of the best full-backs United have had. By the time Gabriel Heinze had recovered from his cruciate injury, Evra was the first choice. The next season he won the first of his five Premier League titles and the rest is history. I enjoy watching him playing for Juventus. They could be an outside bet for the Champions League. With Carlos Tevez, Andrea Pirlo, Alvaro Morata and Fernando Llorente, they have a very good side,” said Scholes.
