Even if Patrice Evra switches back to his old home Old Trafford, he will have a different role this time as the bosses at United want his contribution only off the field and not on it.
Evra’s coaching services have been sought by the Red Devils’ top brass, but, the Frenchman has not given a nod to it yet.
The reason Evra has not committed to this new offer on the table is the uncertainty that he is in regarding his playing career.
The veteran defender can’t quite make up his mind if it’s the right time for him to stop playing and start helping the emerging younger generation.
Even though he is comfortably past his best, he still finds himself to be chased by some clubs who want to have him as a player; West Ham for example is after him. Read more »
Patrice Evra might have been a public enemy at the time when Euro 2016 started, but the recovery story of France sees him to have become the leader of the national team by the time they reached the finals in Euro 2016.
He had been a controversial figure in 2010 in the World Cup with his rebellious attitude. However, he has matured since then and grown to be a wise head in the game and for his team members. This
current tournament definitely saw him in a new avatar and he took on a leading role for the team that was much responsible for the success that the country saw this time.
The journey has been a remarkable one for the player. Though the team did not win the finals the journey to the finale of this international tournament has definitely seen much contribution from this defender of the France team. It has been six years since he has come back from being considered an enemy for the team to be a leading player of the same. At the age of 35 Evra has definitely lost the hot headedness or some of it which he exhibited in the 2010 tournament. The finals against Portugal will help him win the 80th cap. He would have probably earned much more over the years as did his contemporaries like Didier Deschamps, Zinedine Zidane and others if he had been able to reign in his temperament earlier in his career. Further, there was interest from rivals AC Milan – according to the player himself – but that was turned down even with a larger contract offer.
