UNITED WANT NEW LEFT BACK

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that the club are indeed in the market for a new left back after sending the defender Fabio Da Silva on a loan deal till the end of the season to the Premier league rivals QPR. Sir Alex Ferguson said prior to the end of the last season that Fabio Da Silva will be sent out on loan in order to provide him with regular first-team experience. And he has now joined the Premier league club QPR on a season long loan deal, which leaves Patrice Evra as the only recognised left back at the club.

Ferguson has said that he is extremely surprised at the injury record of Patrice Evra, who has managed to stay relatively injury free for the last four seasons. However, the 31-year-old is fast approaching the end of his career and Ferguson has admitted that he has already started looking at alternatives to replace the French left back. Even though Patrice Evra is unlikely to be replaced as of now, Ferguson reckons that it is imperative that Manchester United have a replacement ready in the event of an injury for the 31-year-old. Ferguson struggled with a lot of injuries to key members of the squad last season.

“Left-back is an area which we’re paying attention to. Patrice, in the last five years has played an average of 45 to 50 games. It’s phenomenal. I don’t know if anybody else has achieved that. He’s still a fit lad and has the same drive and ambition. He’s a fighter. Fabio went to QPR, which was so important for the boy because he has enormous ability, but he needs to play,” said Ferguson after revealing that Fabio Da Silva had been sent out on loan. Manchester United have been linked with the Everton defender Leighton Baines.
